Build a 5 or 6 room dungeon for one night of play. The One-Shot Dungeon Builder is a one-shot template that gives every step its own page: the background, a sketch, the hex map, adversaries and their stats, a map across the centre spread, and one page per room. Eight d6 tables inside the back cover get you started, and the free guide adds thirteen more.
What you get
- The 20-page booklet as a printable PDF, 5.5 × 8.5 in, plus a print-at-home file with the pages already in booklet order. Print it double sided, fold it and staple the spine.
- The same booklet as a fillable PDF for tablets and laptops. Type in every box, tick the room types.
- The Weeping Observatory, a finished example dungeon, with sketched maps.
- A QR code and link to the step-by-step guide with the worked example and the extra tables.
The six steps
- The background: why it was built, what happened since, who is inside, what the party wants and what stands in the way
- The map: a rough sketch first, then the real map across the centre pages
- The rooms: one page each, with read-aloud text, notes, encounters, treasure and hidden things
- Adversaries: who they are, how many, which room, how they react
- Treasure and hidden things, each with a clue that points to it
- Hooks and secrets: three hooks for three kinds of character, and six things the party can learn
Who it is for
- GMs who want a small dungeon they can prep in an evening and run in one
- Any system. Nothing in the booklet uses rules from one game. Write stat blocks for D&D, Daggerheart, Shadowdark or whatever you play.
If you have met the five room dungeon, the idea Johnn Four wrote up, this is the same shape with a sixth page left for something hidden. A dungeon builder you fill in, not a generator.
